User condition blog

December 29th, 2020

I wonder if we users of the BREIA trails would use the blog to report conditions. Many have a drive to the trails and would benefit from advance daily updates on conditions from other skiers.

For example, my family skied the Canal trail at midday. There was about 4” of new snow on top of a patchy base. It’s skiable and in some places very nice but rock skis would be advisable.

Great Skiing

January 26th, 2017

Skied yesterday, 12/31/16, late morning, from Egypt Road parking near RR tracks to Egypt Road Hut. Conditons were excellent . Also did the Cherry Tree loop. Conditions there were not as good, with some wet spots at creek crossings, but still passable.

Cannot wait for more snow and for this favorite trail to be groomed. Of course I love all the trails year round.

Beautiful Trails!!!!!

February 10th, 2016

We skied all the trails last weekend.  The conditions were excellent with the trails either groomed or tracked.  We would like to give a big thank you to the family that provided the land and whoever is responsible for the upkeep.  We especially enjoyed the telemark warming hut.  My girlfriend and I wanted to live there!  The upkeep of the trails, bathrooms, and warming huts must be huge undertaking and we all really appreciated the work that went into making it such a wonderful place to spend a winter weekend.

Skating Trails on Jackson Hill

December 21st, 2015

I visited the Jackson Hill trails last year that are marked for skate skiing on the map. The trails were groomed for classic skiing every time i visited. Do the crews plan on grooming for skating this coming year?

Skate Skiing

December 21st, 2015

I see on your web site that skate skiing is allowed in a certain area on Jackson Hill.  Is the area groomed specifically for skate skiing?

I just wanted to express my appreciation to the founders  of the Black River Environment Improvement Association (and the people that maintain the trails).  Being fortunate enough to live only a few miles from the Egypt Road facilities, I took full advantage this year and hit the trails often (several times each week).  I decided this past year, it was going to be the year  I would get “back in shape,” and your trails certainly played a big part in that goal.  They made it easy for me to get out and exercise.  Your trail system is a tremendous asset to our community and to all those that take advantage of it.  And for that–I thank you.

Do you recommend a particular all-purpose ski wax? If so, where can it/they be purchased. We skied Black River Canal Trail New Year’s Day and 1 of us got bogged by sticky snow. Thanks
